Do you believe John 3:16? Then why isn’t Mark 16:17–18 your daily life?

Hi, I’m Addison. You’re reading Bigger Than Me—a weekly guide devoted to removing the fears, doubts, and misconceptions that keep believers from healing the sick in everyday life.

Editor’s Note

If you missed Bigger Than Me in your inbox last Friday, that one’s on me.

This week’s story will explain some of what derailed writing, but in short — we had a sudden family emergency that made it impossible to sit down and put an issue together.

As usual I’ll try to do my best to make sure you have a new issue in your inbox every Friday.

Thank you for your continued readership and grace.

God bless,
Addison.

It’s 6:30am.

My son stumbles into our bedroom, half asleep, asking to use the bathroom. Still foggy myself, I hear a strange whooshing sound coming from the floor vent as we shuffle into the bathroom.

I assume it’s just our old house being weird again.

My son finishes. I flush the toilet.

The tank doesn’t refill.

Strange.

I turn on the sink.

Nothing.

That’s when it hits me.

The sound from the vent isn’t air.

It’s water.

I rush down the unlit stairs of our townhome. As my feet meet the first floor carpet, my socks are immediately soaked. The kitchen has standing water. The laundry room is flooded. Entry bath, ruined. I open the utility room and find ol’ faithful has been relocated into our house.

The main shutoff valve has blown clean off the city line, and water is gushing straight into the ceiling.

I try to reach it, but the spray blinds me.

I attempt to cover the geyser with a bucket.

The pressure launches it into the opposite wall.

Four and a half hours of mainline water pour into our home before it’s finally shut off.

By noon Monday, the main floor is gutted. Flooring, cabinets, counters, drywall, appliances: all removed.

The rest of the week becomes a flurry of phone calls, packing, moving, apartment hunting, unpacking, and more. 6:30am to one in the morning.

I’m exhausted and barely holding it together.

That’s when I get a text from my friend Eddie.

“Get to work lol.”

That’s it. Attached is a screenshot of a text thread.

His friend Rachel had a herniated disc. Bedridden for three and a half weeks. Fear is creeping in that this might never go away.

He couldn’t call that day but Rachel needed help.

I tell Eddie I’ll call her later.

I attempt three times that afternoon.

Three times something interrupts.

It’s now 4:45pm. I pack up to head to my in-laws’ where we are staying. I told my wife I’d try to be back around five.

The mental back and forth begins as I consider calling:

  • You don’t have time.

  • Be responsible.

  • Family first.

  • You gave it your best shot.

  • She’ll understand.

Then, clear as anything:

“You didn’t ask Me.”

I stop.
I hadn’t.
So I do.

I call Rachel as I drive home.

We talk about Jesus.

We command healing in Jesus’ name over her back.

Rachel stands up.

No pain.

She starts pacing her room, thanking Jesus.

We say our goodbyes, then I hang up and walk inside.

Dinner was still warm.

“I already know”

The lie wasn’t that God wouldn’t heal her.

It was subtler than that.

It was this:

“I already know.”

I already know what I should do.
I already know how long this will take.
I already know how it needs to fit into my day.

It sounds efficient.
It feels responsible.
It even feels like spiritual growth.

You’re not rejecting God.
You’re just calculating.

The moment we assume we’ve already figured it out, we quietly remove consultation. We decide first. We act later. And somewhere in between, partnership turns into management.

That’s how the lie works.

Not by telling you to disobey.

By convincing you there’s nothing to ask.

Kingdom Living

The truth is simple:

You were never meant to manage the Kingdom.

You were meant to move with it.

Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing.” (John 5:19)

If the Son of God did not assume — how much less should we?

Obedience is not about squeezing God into our plans. It’s about seeking Him first.

First.

Not after the schedule is set.
Not once the math makes sense.
Not when everything feels manageable.

Authority flows from relationship.
Relationship requires consultation.

You don’t carry healing because you’ve calculated well.

You carry it because you belong to Him.

Sons and daughters let the Father lead.

A Prayer of Reminder

Dear Father,

Thank You that I am not managing my own life.

You are good.
You are leading.
You are not competing with my responsibilities — You are guiding them.

I confess how quickly I assume I already know what needs to happen.
I assume I know the timing and the cost.

But I don’t.

You are with me in every ordinary moment.

Thank you that I can trust you with my hopes and desires.
When You prompt me to move — to call, to pray, to step toward someone who is suffering — You are not interrupting my life.

You are expressing it.

Holy Spirit, remind me that I carry the authority of Jesus into everyday spaces. Healing is not an intrusion. It is part of the inheritance You’ve given me.

I don’t have to decide first and consult later.

I can ask, listen and follow You.

Lead me today.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Until next time,
Addison

How To Command Healing

Here’s a simple guide to start healing in Jesus’ name today:

  1. Ask what’s wrong and have the person gauge pain or severity

  2. Ask to pray for them.

  3. In the prayer:

    1. Declare that the Kingdom of God is here and sickness can’t stay

    2. Directly command the problem to leave in Jesus‘ name

    3. Directly command the body to heal in Jesus’ name

  4. Have them test it and gauge improvement.

  5. Listen for direction from God, then pray again if it’s still there.

  6. Stand in confidence once God says it’s done.

  7. Witness and invite Holy Spirit to stay (if not a believer already)

  8. Take the experience to prayer to hear from God later
