Do you believe John 3:16? Then why isn’t Mark 16:17–18 your daily life?

Hi, I’m Addison. You’re reading (or listening to) Bigger Than Me—a weekly guide devoted to removing the fears, doubts, and misconceptions that keep believers from healing the sick in everyday life.

(Unsure if modern healing is something the Bible actually teaches? Start here.)

My daughter was standing in front of my wife when the thermometer beeped.

102.

She wasn’t throwing up.
Wasn’t collapsed on the couch.

Just… off.

Quieter than usual.
Moving slower.
Her forehead was hot to the touch,
and she actually wanted to lay down for once.

I could guess what was coming next.

As I sat with her on the couch, a thought came:

Pray.

So I looked at her and said,

“Hey, we’re going to tell the sickness to leave, and Jesus is going to help us.”

Then I put my hand on her forehead and prayed.

I commanded the sickness to leave her body.
And told her body to heal,
in Jesus' name.

I did it a couple more times.

That’s enough.

I stopped.

Nothing had changed.

She still looked sick.
Still warm to the touch and lethargic.

“Thank you, Lord”

I gave her a hug and went back to work

That afternoon I walked into the living room.

She was running around.

The fever was gone.

“Don’t mess this up.”

I used to think I needed to do something more.

Say it better.
Pray it longer.
Make it count.

Like if I didn’t get it right in that moment,
nothing would happen.

Especially when I’d watch my kids suffer.

They were counting on me so I couldn’t mess this up.

Just say it. Trust Him.

I don’t have to make it work.
I don’t have to get it perfect.
I don’t have to stay there trying to force something to happen.

I can say what needs to be said.
Listen to God.
Know when to stop.
And move on.

A Prayer for When It’s Enough

Dear Father,

Thank You that You are straightforward.

Thank You that You didn’t make healing something I have to figure out,
perform,
or get exactly right.

Jesus, thank You for showing me what healing looks like.

You didn’t strive.
You didn’t overcomplicate.
You spoke—and it was done.

Holy Spirit, thank You that You are with me in the moment.

Guiding me.
Directing me when to speak,
and when to stop.

Thank You Lord that I don’t have to strive to make things happen.

This is about Your love and power.
You are the one who moves.

I let go of the pressure to get it right,
to say more,
and to make it work.

I will say what needs to be said.

Listen.

And stop when You say.

I trust You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Until next time,
Addison

How To Command Healing

Here’s a simple guide to start healing in Jesus’ name today:

  1. Ask what’s wrong and have the person gauge pain or severity.

  2. Ask to pray for them.

  3. In the prayer:

    1. Declare that the Kingdom of God is here and sickness can’t stay

    2. Directly command the problem to leave in Jesus‘ name

    3. Directly command the body to heal in Jesus’ name

  4. Have them test it and gauge improvement (if they can)

  5. Listen for direction from God, then pray again if He tells you.

  6. Witness and invite Holy Spirit to stay (if they’re not a believer already)

  7. Take the experience to prayer to hear from God afterward.
