Do you believe John 3:16? Then why isn’t Mark 16:17–18 your daily life?

Hi, I’m Addison. You’re reading (or listening to) Bigger Than Me—a weekly guide devoted to removing the fears, doubts, and misconceptions that keep believers from healing the sick in everyday life.

(Unsure if modern healing is something the Bible actually teaches? Start here.)

This was the first time I ever tried to pray for healing in front of others.
Our church group was getting ready to go out—
pray for people,
talk to whoever we met.

Before we left,
I had this thought:

Don’t explain it,
do it.

So I motioned for Pastor Mike to stand with me in front of the group.

“Do you have anything health wise bothering you?”

He didn’t hesitate.

“Yeah… I’ve had this headache all morning.
And my neck, my shoulders too,
they’ve been tight for a while.”

Okay.

This is it.

I turned to the group.

“I’m just going to speak to this in Jesus’ name
and expect it to go.”

That was all I had.

I put my hand on him.

“Headache: go.”
“Neck: loosen.”
“Shoulders: be restored.”
“In Jesus’ name.”

I stopped.

“How’s it feel?”

He paused.

“…my headache’s gone.”

He turned his neck.

“…yeah, I couldn’t do that before.”

He rolled his shoulders.

“…that’s… yeah. That’s better.”

Excitement bubbled up for me.

And right as I went to speak I heard:

Don’t overreact.

If you treat this as normal,
they will see it as normal.

Which it should be.

So I just nodded.

“Yeah, that’s how it works.”

“This Doesn’t Usually Happen”

You didn’t expect healing like that.

Not that quickly.

Not that easily.

So your heart jumped,
like this was something rare.

Something you don’t expect to see again anytime soon.

That’s what God was correcting.

Healing Is Supposed To Be Normal

God wasn’t asking that I forgo gratitude,
or telling me I couldn’t be excited,
rather He was showing me something deeper:

If you react like healing is unusual,
people will assume it is.

“Don’t overreact.

If you treat this as normal,
they will see it as normal.

Mike’s healing was never meant to be a one-off moment.

It wasn’t an unusual breakthrough.

A Prayer for New Expectations

Dear Father,

Thank You for being Jehovah Rapha.

Thank You that Your goodness isn’t rare.
It’s consistent.

Jesus, thank You that You paid for our healing.
This isn’t something I have to wish for,
but something I can expect.

Holy Spirit, thank You for correcting me
when I misread what You’re doing.

I won’t treat Your work like it’s a surprise.

I won’t react like this is a one-time event.

I’ll recognize what You’re doing.
I’ll give thanks.
And I’ll keep moving in expectation.

What You’ve made normal,
I’ll treat as normal.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Until next time,
Addison
