Do you believe John 3:16? Then why isn’t Mark 16:17–18 your daily life?
Hi, I’m Addison. You’re reading (or listening to) Bigger Than Me—a weekly guide devoted to removing the fears, doubts, and misconceptions that keep believers from healing the sick in everyday life.

Little James watches another person get healed.
Then another.
Then another.
At some point, he stops counting.
The blind see.
The deaf hear.
The lame walk…
Jesus never seems surprised.
The crowds downright expect it now.
It's become normal.
That's why James’ question burns in him.
He’s still limping.
Every village.
Every road.
Every single step.
He was sent out with the other disciples.
He’s watched hundreds healed.
Lives changed in an instant.
He’s laughed, cried, and rejoiced with many of them.
With each new testimony, the question grows louder.
If Jesus heals people…
Why not me?
Eventually, he asks.

“Someday”
It's a heartbreaking scene from Season 3 of The Chosen.
Many viewers hoped for exactly the answer Jesus gave James.
That this was about purpose.
Timing.
God's greater plan.
That his weakness was a witness to others.
After all, what other explanation could there be?
If Jesus heals strangers...
If Jesus heals crowds...
If even Little James is sent out to heal others...
Then maybe Jesus simply doesn't want to heal James.
Maybe God has a reason.
Maybe this is part of the plan.
Maybe the answer isn't "no."
Just...
"Someday."

He Healed Them All
The idea sounds compassionate.
Maybe God isn't withholding healing.
Maybe He's just waiting.
Maybe the suffering is accomplishing something important first,
and breakthrough comes later.
For a moment, that can feel comforting.
At least there's an explanation.
You don't find Jesus standing beside a blind man telling him to “hold fast” so the Father’s kingdom can be glorified in his suffering.
You don't find Jesus telling a parent their child’s seizures are part of a larger plan.
You don't find Him assuring lepers their cure will eventually come in heaven.
When sick people came to Jesus, He didn't reveal a hidden purpose behind their sickness.
He revealed the Father's heart toward them.
He moved toward their suffering with compassion.

A Prayer for God’s Perspective

Dear Father,
Thank You for showing us what You are like through Jesus.
Jesus, thank You for living out Your Father’s heart toward the sick every day.
Holy Spirit, thank You for flowing through me in that same power and compassion today.
Lord, thank you that through You I can participate in that same miraculous compassion for those that are suffering today.
Thank you that You still care, still empower, and still break chains of sickness and disease today through Your children.
Where I've believed You wanted sickness more than healing, renew my mind.
Where I've accepted explanations that don't sound like Jesus, help me trust what You revealed.
Teach me to see sickness the way You do.
Teach me to see people the way You do.
And when the opportunity to pray for someone comes, embolden me to respond with Your compassion and confidence.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Until next time,
